Aerococcus sanguinicola causes bacteremia (26), endocarditis (26), urosepsis (26) and cholecystitis (26). A viridans causes urinary tract infections (27, 28), bacteremia, endocarditis (Table 1),
MALDI-TOF MS, sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene and a PYR test were used Aerococcus viridans n = 14, Aerococcus sanguinicola n = 13 and Aerococcus
The first report on A. urinae was published in 1989 (14) and the name designated in 1992 (1) and A.sanguinicola was named in 2001 (40). Aerococcus urinae is a pathogen that rarely causes severe or fatal infections. We describe four cases of severe A. urinae bloodstream infections. All patients had underlying urologic conditions.

A gram-positive, catalase-negative Aerococcus organism described as Aerococcus viridians was identified in 1953. 1 Since then, 4 more Aerococcus species, namely, A. urinae, 2, A. urinaehominis, 3, A. sanguinicola, 4 and A. christensenii, 5 have been isolated in the human body. LA PLACE DES AEROCOCCUS EN CLINIQUE HUMAINE : REVUE SUR UNE SERIE DE 29 CAS HOSPITALIERS Until the early 1990s, Aerococcus viridans was the only Aerococcus species sporadically isolated from human specimens, but more recently it has been joined by four new species: A. urinae , Aerococcus sanguinicola ( 17 ), Aerococcus christensenii ( 18 ) and Aerococcus urinaehominis ( 19 ) based primarily on divergent 16S rRNA gene sequences. mass spectrometry, has led to an increased isolation of Aerococcus urinae and Aerococcus sanguinicola from human urine and blood. The two species are found in human urine and can cause urinary tract infections (UTI). Aerococcus urinae can, in older males with underlying urinary
Both Aerococcus urinae and Aerococcus sanguinicola have been shown to cause invasive human infections such as sepsis with a urinary tract focus and infective endocarditis (IE),,,, and both these species are also believed to cause urinary tract infections (UTI),. Aerococcus urinae is a Gram-positive, catalase-negative coccus that was first described in the 1990s as a causative organism of urinary tract infections .

MALDI-TOF MS, sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene and a PYR test were used for species identification. Patients' medical charts were systematically reviewed. Etests were used to determine MIC values. Seventy-seven patients were identified (Aerococcus urinae n = 49, Aerococcus viridans n = 14, Aerococcus sanguinicola n = 13 and Aerococcus
However, the clinical significance, phenotypic features and antimicrobial susceptibilities of these underestimated and/or misidentified species remain unclear. Since 1992, four additional species have been described: Aerococcus urinae, Aerococcus sanguinicola, Aerococcus christensenii, and Aerococcus urinaehominis.
